Khajuraho
Khajuraho is a small town located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, northern India.
It is famous for the many temples with erotic images and sculptures from the Kamasutra.
Most importantly: the temples of Khajuraho are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Most of the 85 temples, of which 25 are left, were built between 950 and 1050 AD. Therefore they are the perfect example of Indo-Aryan architecture.
Above all, it is a mystery how the Chandelas were able to build so many temples in just a hundred years time in a fairly remote area. As a result, the remote location ensured that a large part of the temples survived the Muslim occupiers.
The most famous temples are the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple, the Lakshmana Temple and the Devi Jagadambi Temple.
